That is so funny. I used to have one of those ceiling fans but never would have thought to do that!!!

This is what I had in my first flat that only had 1 gas fire in lounge and no other heating

We bought a really low energy clothes horse that you plug in and leave overnight and it heats up drying the clothes, we got ours from Lakeland £80 ish. May seem expensive but it runs for 3p an hour and we have a cheaper night rate, best purchase we ever made as the storage heaters were too expensive to justify leaving on for drying clothes..

I use a dehumidifier, put the clothes on an airer in the bathroom, put the leccy towel heater on and the humidifer and they dryer quickly.

In the summer, just open the bathroom window but dont dry the clothes in your living room or bedroom!
We've been in an electric only flat with storage heaters on economy 7. The dehumidifier was one of the best things we bought. Washing put on a clothes airer and dehumidifier will suck out the moisture overnight.

As said before - washer dryers are really crap, dont dry the clothes properly as well as "proper " dryers

As a landlord of two electric only flats, I make sure both are fitted with a premium washer/dryer as I wouldn't want my tenants to have to cause damp problems by hanging wet clothes everywhere.

From what I have seen of property adverts, washer/dryers are becoming more common. Does the flat have a washing machine? Might be worth asking if it can be replaced with a washer/dryer before you move in.

Buy cheapest new from Primark & throw away when dirty...
Some years back I had a job with a company car and used this approach - when the car got dirty I used to ring the leasing company and ask them to change it for me......

    Another vote for a dehumidifier.

That's simply not true any more. An Indesit or Hotpoint will still likely disappoint but a decent Bosch or AEG machine will dry the clothes perfectly.

I use a pedestal fan to dry clothes in my kitchen. Much quicker than not using one and only 1-2p per hour. Changing the air in the room while drying is very important. Clothes dry quicker and it avoids causing mould. Drying on a radiator is wrong. The clothes insulate the radiator making the heating work harder. Hanging clothes above a radiator works well but will cause damp unless the room is well ventilated.

I have a cheap portable washer with a drying compartment that does a very good job. I have an airer that I stand in the doorway leading to my balcony. In this weather things dry very quickly, and even in winter air drying works overnight. Putting things on with sleeves on hangers is a good idea.
