Massive rise in Kilowatt useage for electricity
As above but usage remains exactly the same.
what are my options?
it is a digital single phase kilowatt meter indoors.
Changed to Eon last November: 265 kw to late January 2015
363 kw hours to mid May
today only( 3/07/15 ) 6-weeks into quarter 1142 kilowatt hours
How long should i monitor the situation before contacting EON ?
No new appliances used and the last reading was their own?
(I am a single Household)
Thanks

Are the readings shown on the bills in January, May and July- ACTUAL/CUSTOMER or ESTIMATED? My guess is that this is a catch up situation. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

As i said the last bill states that it is an actual reading . Since i read it an hour ago it has gone up one killowat . fridge, router, pc , monitor and digital radio all on. Not boiled a kettle or anything else. Been here over 16 years and nothing like this has happened before. Always am meticulous in giving readings"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Are you reading the meter yourself or relying on estimated readings as shown on the bill. The two winter quarters look a bit low to me so it appears to be a catch-up. I struggle to get my electricity use down to less than 250-300kwh/month in the summer let alone a quarter in the winter
Unless you check yourself that the bills accurately reflect your meter readings then it's quite easy for this to occur when someone actually does a meter read.
Ideally you should read your meter yourself every month and phone, e-mail or otherwise send the readings through to your supplier.
At the very least check your bills/statements with the meter either when they pop through the letterbox or on line and get them corrected.
If you think that something might be wrong then you need to read your meter daily for a couple of weeks to see what's using it and when - keep a spread sheet.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I have read the meter myself always for 16 years here, and i have never had a problem. All previous bills even with Scottish Power and the other companies were always within the expected usage. I was only checking my usage today to show my neighbour how cheap my bills have always been!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

A catch-up situation wouldn't make the meter go faster. If I'm reading OP's posts correctly it's not the bills that are wrong, OP is seeing the Kwh being used at an alarming rate.
Have you looked outside your house to make sure no-one has hijacked your supply?
I would phone Eon ASAP, it might be a faulty meter that they'll need to change.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
i calculate at £10.35 per unit , i am already looking at a bill for £120 plus standing charge for a single occupancy. The last bill for May 19th states the electricty reading was an actual reading and not a customers . It was 11893 and now it is 12035 plus 1 !"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

There is a flat below but it has been empty for 8 weeks or so. I am wondering if the renewal work on that flat has something to do with it?"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

This is my question. Should i contact them now or leave it for a week or so and see what the kilowatt usage is . I remember the guy coming to read the meter but whether it was on May 19th i couldn't say!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -
Turn everything off for half an hour and watch the meter .0

Apart from the very high price of '£10.35 a unit' (I only pay 10 pence);) in 45 days since May 19th according to the above meter readings you have only used 142kWh which is very low consumption.
On an earlier post you stated 1142kWh since mid-May - is this an arithmetic problem?0
