our pc has died the death or so i thought, took the hard drive to a computer shop and the guy said the hard drive is fine and to bring in pc, but they charge £30 to test to find out what component/s needs replacing then will ask if you want it fixed with then giving the prices for parts etc....
what i want to know is if the hard drive is ok can i transfer anything from it to my laptop and if so is it easy?:o cos getting the pc fixed might not be cost effective

You can get a caddy to put the drive in which would let you connect it to hte laptop via USB look here: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/search/?qfind=drive+caddy&x=630&y=1450

is it that simple to connect as coming up as an extra device or do i have to go into any settings etc....:o i'm useless for techie stuff and hubby is even more useless:D0

Should just plug it in and it should show up as an extra drive!

A good lesson in the importance of backups, it could have been the HD that died..
