Help needed to adjust Lenovo laptop screen colours

I have a new Lenovo laptop and the screen is much too bright. It is so overly bright as to make the colours look majorly washed out. I cannot stare at the monitor without finding it a strain on my eyes. I have already adjusted by using the manual "up and down" contrast buttons on the keyboard without much difference. It is on Vista. I tried going into Colour Management but there isn't a colour "wheel" there to make any tunings. Can anyone advise?

Could you tell us what model Lenovo it is ? As it will all depend on what graphic chip is onboard.. :)

Intel GMA950 graphics appears to be in the spec for that, so you should have the Intel GMA driver installed, this gives you a few extra options.. If you right click on the desktop (where there are no icons) you should have 2 extra options Graphics Options and Graphics Properties, select graphics properties and you will be presented with the Intel GMA utility used to selecting multiple displays etc..
You want to choose the 'Color correction' tab on the left of that screen, then slide the brightness / gamma down :)

Thanks! That does help. If I can ask one more question, is there a way to deepen the colours? The colours are still looking very pale.

Sadly, no. A lot of it is to do with the contrast ratio of the LCD panel which is quite low on lower end laptops.

Just to add, if you go into Control Panel, Power options, select the plan and then "modify", you can change the default brightness settings in there for on mains and on battery.
