Is it possible?

Hello there,

I'm a student and in my spare time I'm looking to make around £150 per/week on eBay...what do we think is this possible?

I know I'll be asking a few questions here that some would rather not reveal but if you could put me in the right direction that would be great..so..

What sort of products sell best on eBay and can you find at the better profits?

What do you sell on eBay and what do you make per/week?

Thanks in advance for your responses, hopefully I can get some idea of how to start etc.

Steven

    Hello Steven,

I'm sorry but I don't think you are going to get the type of responses you really want. Ebay is quite cut throat so a lot of us are looking for the next best thing to sell, unfortunately I've not found it yet :-( If we did have a fast moving item I think most of us would be reluctant to share as the last thing we would want is a competitor.

My general advice though would be to look in a niche market, something you have an interest in. If you have a genuine interest in something you are better placed to watch the sales, see what prices are achievable and look for a stockist that can turn you a profit on ebay. I knew someone who was making money on fishing tackle, it meant nothing at all to me yet he could see bargains where all I saw was a winding thingy.

Ebay moves quickly, the trick is to be ahead of the rest. Whilst I am not sure trading in charity wristbands was a good idea, people were making huge amounts at the height of the boom selling bands for 10 times the initial cost. Now you can hardly give them away so all those sellers have moved on to something new.

As for money, find the right product and the sky is your limit. A work colleague of mine makes as much on ebay as she does working in an office, I make considerably less.

Spend some time browsing ebay, look in all the funny little categories, do random searches to get a feel for it. Remember as well that trading on ebay costs money, listing fees, final value fees, paypal fees, and build all that into your calculations when working out likely profits.

AVoid drop shippers, you do all the work, get all the hassle and they get the profit, bad idea.

Thanks for that great reply! OK, I will take your advice on board I think at first I will have a look around the house to see what I can sell and maybe focus in on something.

I have sold on eBay before and it would be nice to make some money for little work! It's the dream I guess for most people.

    Thanks again for the post.

Treat this like you would any offline business venture, assign yourself a budget to buy stock, some money for advertising (listing fees), and allow a contingency in case it all goes wrong.

As for what to sell, don't get fooled into electronic products as you'll just get in trouble, the way forward is definately real items.

Finally you could try affiliate marketing, drop me a pm or visit my forum if you want ideas of what is possible.

a point to note is that the Inland Revenue are currently tracking ebay activity and investigating those making decent money out of goods obviously not their own second hand items!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
