Going to Disneyland Paris with a 6 month old....

I also find the concept odd. Photos should be a trigger to recall life events or fun times. The idea of doing something not age appropriate, just to create a memory I find odd.
Imagine years later, child shows photo to friend: that was when my parents took me abroad, put me out of my routine, wrapped me up to be outside in the cold, just to take some photos to create this memory.
so you disagree with making family memories from the start? there were so many photos and videos from when i was a baby on holiday that i obviously have no memories over but hate that i can never see them again.
also whos to say what could happen tomorrow, so shouldn't you make the most of life and create amazing memories right from the start? even if the first few years of memories will only be via photos, videos etc.
im not saying family memories can only be created from a holiday, but surely its something nice to look back on an show your child when you get older.
back in the day some of my favourite evenings were spent with my parents jut looking at old photos/videos etc.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

There's a lot of rides at DLP which don't have height restrictions ( pirates, phantom manor, it's a small world etc) so you could go on them together, but it might be worth waiting a few months longer. My little sister loved it when she was 10 months
yeah i think i have decided to wait till around March time as he will be around 9/10 months and it wont be quite as cold.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

Been twice to DLP, in April and November. The April trip was by far the coldest, i had to buy hat'scarf and gloves whilst i was there. It made me miserable.
Re the concept of "memories", we've been abroad too many times to mention, Florida and DLP included. The holiday my daughter always used to speak about when she was little, despite going to Florida, was the caravan we rented in Great Yarmouth. She remembers the beach and riding the donkeys, i'm not saying she doesn't remember Florida or DLP, it's just that when kids are really small, it's really not worth spending shed loads of money for something they won't remember.
I have boxes and boxes of photos from previous holidays in my wardrobe. My kids aren't interested in the slightest in looking at them, there's a collective groan from both of them if i get them out. You have a boy, believe me, he won't be interested. I still take photos for myself but as they're now all on my phone or a memory stick, i really don't bother looking at them once we're back.0 -

No I don't. What I do disagree with is to go somewhere just to get the photo to create the memory, rather than going to a place because you want to be there, then taking a photo to have the memory.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You've just missed the point.
The Parents already love Disney themselves and this holiday is going to be one of several over the years they take as (now) a family-They want their child to have the same good feelings and experiences they have . My son doesn't remember his first trip to Disney but he enjoys the photos from the trip as part of a bigger picture of family life.
As for not taking photos because the child won't remember the moment -I guess by the same logic you shouldn't introduce children to grandparents until they are old enough to remember them either. My Dad died before my son was a year old -thankfully we did take photos of them together- Just because he doesn't remember his grandad doesn't mean he can't enjoy looking at photos of them together or hearing about him and how much he loved him.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Ah I am glad you get where I am coming from :-), to the previous poster, of course were not thinking of just taking him to just take a photo, we wouldn't go if we did not want to go, Disney holidays for us are the equivalent of beach holidays to other people. I love the idea of creating memories that we can look over as a family in years to come as soon as possible, I just wanted opinions from people who have done it with younger babies before.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010

That isn't making memories, that's just photography.
The genuine memories you have are of the evenings spent with your parents - treasure those and forget about the piccies.0 -

But the photos trigger those memories, i love looking at old photos, unlike my kids !0 -

I'm interested in old family photos but it doesn't have much to do with memories as most of them were taken before I was born .
I just feel that the OP is missing the point a bit because he has genuine, loving memories of the evenings spent with his parents but he seems to think that the memories are of the things shown in the pictures, for which he has no memory at all.
I doubt that his parents thought they were "making memories" when they sat down with him but the memories are there nonetheless.
It just seems a bit topsy turvey to me.:)0 -
Ok I think this is getting a bit out of hand, I'm not saying that we want to go on holiday JUST to take a photo to create a memory that we can look at in years to come, building that memory is just a bonus that obviously we will cherrish for the rest of our lives, and the little one can look at when he's older.
The point is we love Disney, and we would obviously like to experience a Disney holiday with our little man at the first opportunity we can, yes its obviously going to be more enjoyable when he's older, but I'm sure we can enjoy the holiday whilst he's still younger as well.
The point about the memories, is when I used to look through old photos and videos, I loved looking through the holiday ones as well, and it just forms part of the family album and the special memories you make as a family, even if only the parents can remember the first few years.
I really did not want this thread to turn into some argument about how you should create memories with your child, I just wanted opinions, ideally from people who have experienced it, but obviously all opinions are welcome.Disneyland Paris (Dream Castle) - January 2010
