Squeaky Window

Hi all,
I have a squeaky drivers side window on My 09 Mini Cooper S, when the window is brought down or up it makes an awful sqeaking noise. I have been told a £5 bottle of silicone spray would cure this. However as this is MSE i wondered if anyone knew of any ingenious cheaper/free solution?
thanks

Run a thin bead of washing up liquid along the bottom edge of the window.
That's what I heard years ago from a vehicle technician/rectifier when I was working in the rectification area of a car factory. He told me he did this as a matter of course whenever he got a new car.
Never tried it myself so can't vouch for it and if anyone know if this is a good idea or not feel free to correct me.0 -
The noise is probably from the glass rubbing against the rubber seal.
Leave it too long and you'll end up with scratched glass.
Put your window all the way down. Use a cloth with some general purpose cleaner and wipe along the rubber strip not forgetting the underside.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0 -
Free solution. Take the fuse out of the electric window circuit. Use the aircon instead.0

Viz Top Tip of the day :rotfl:0 -
Silicone spray is the easiest way to do it, though you could go to the trouble of running small candles up and down the edges as a cheaper alternative. Don't use washing up liquid, it is loaded with salt and is only going to settle in the bottom of the door and cause future problems.0

Ascertain where the squeak is coming from first. Is it the glass rubbing the dry rubber at the base or side of the frame or is it the regulator mechanism? There's no point indiscriminately spraying grease or washing up liquid or anything else.0

Squeaky window fix. WD40 . affix the little tube you get taped to the can, and spray into the slot the widow rides up and down in. Run window up and down a few times , then clean glass of any greasy:j residue
P.s my window squeaks occasionally on my mini and my fix works for me, its the krud on the rubber and this fix just lubricates and cleans . Only superior beings drive minis:rotfl:0 -
I forgot to mention open window fully before spraying, also give a extra squirt at either end of window slot
Take aim at the rubber seal and remember we mini drivers are special people
We mini drivers will take over the world eventually:rotfl:0 -
Any of the magic sprays, with teflon or silicon, sprayed into the channels will work, or leave the window up as suggested.
roneik, are you aware what "special" means nowadays:D
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
