Cracked Soil Pipe Concrete Collar

Hey MSE,

Got an issue with a 'collar' around the bottom of our soil pipe. It has a crack and is leaking onto our paving.

Is it a simple job of reconcreting it? Or shall I remove the old stuff and put in a plastic replacement? Is this all within the realms of an OK DIYer?

Any help gratefully received. :)

Are we talking about the bit where the plastic soil pipe meets the clay of the drain pipe. With the gap between the plastic and grey being filled with cement ?

If so, then I think you might have a problem. Nothing should come out of there even if it is cracked.

Think of it like putting a hose pipe into a wider piece of pipe. As long as the hose pipe is below the lip of the wider pipe all the water will go down, none up and over. If, however, your wider pipe is blocked, or partly blocked, then the water will back up and come over the top.

For "water" - and it probably isn't ALL water - to be coming out of the collar at the bottom there has to be a head of water in the soil pipe. I think you have a blocked, or partly blocked drain ...
