In principle, she could have appealed the decision to end her IB after 13 months.
This is now out of time, and cannot be done.

If this was not done, then a fresh ESA claim would never link back to the contribution conditions before her disability.
Even without a gap - prior ESA(c)/IB contributions paid are not enough.
Any claim now would look solely at contributions in 12/13 and 13/14.
She would be entitled to income-based ESA in the support group, which would be fully affected by any pension income, and a partners income if any.

Thank you all. Really appreciate the practical advice. In a way I really can't muster the interest to try and deal with financial issues. However, it's a distraction of sorts. Thank you for your kind words. I know she'll get PIP higher care and, possibly, the mobility element. She's on weekly palliative chemotherapy so I'd hope she might be considered for this; she's in bed for half of each week as a result. She clearly should not have withdrawn from the IB/ESA transfer process. It's somewhat academic now. At the time she just couldn't cope with the prospect of the assessments. This is her second cancer. Stay happy people. Again, thanks.

If Macmillan can't help they may be able to put you in contact with an appropriate person at your local CAB. If not then it may be worth contacting them directly.

  • In some parts of the country Macmillan fund welfare benefit teams often based at cabs. Search in your area on the Macmillan site for your nearest one. You can self refer or get your cons to do this for you. They are experienced welfare case workers and should be able to hep you with all this.

Sorry to hear about your wife, I also have terminal cancer.

Another thing, you might be able to get a grant from Macmillan. I got one to pay for a new washing machine and towards heating costs. Every little bit helps.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. Time is valuable, so won't spend too much effort on this. However, the pointers really help. Appreciate the replies.
