Help with study costs

I am a single parent looking to study for 2 years to complete my AAT qualification. I currently work part time and am receipt of working and child tax credit as well as my salary.

The course I am looking at costs £652 for the first year and nearly £1000 for the second year.

According to the college website I could get around £200 a year discount as I am on a low income, but that still means quite a high cost and I will also need childcare as the course is one full day and although my son is at school, I will need it before and after school not to mention the petrol and parking (college is an hour's drive away).

Can anybody tell me if there is any other help available?

There is a website where you can check out what grants you may be eligible to apply for, but I cant remember what it is called. I will try and remember, someone else who knows what I mean may come along in the meantime . . .

AAT is a professional qualification, and as such you are unlikely to get any kind of 'community' funding towards it. Would your employer be willing to support you in your studies? This is the most common way that people study towards accountancy qualifications.

I phoned the college today and they will basically fund virtually everything including 75% of my childcare.

I was really surprised and it's not what is stated on their website.

There must be some extra funding around at the moment!

That is great news, especially for AAT.

I did CIMA, which is pretty mindless, but I think AAT is much more focused on practical accounting, so much more interesting (for me at least!).

Could I ask where you are studying? This might sound silly with me having done CIMA, but I didn't take any of that in due to it just being so boring. Would love to gain some more practical skills x

Also, have a look at the website Laura listed. I am considering doing my PGCE from next month, and found up to £3000 of extra potential funding! I really didn't think that postgrad or professional stuff was eligible, but am very happy to say I was wrong! x
