Perhaps Aspen Woolf should provide a barge pole with every investment so as to negate the possibility of someone not touching it with a barge pole?

    Just a thought.

The original post seems to be an odd one for the firm to have become agitated about. It's not saying anything defamatory, certainly in no specific sense of the word, and is a simple statement of the posters opinion on their particular investment opportunity.

Many posters have said the same about many other investment opportunities: this post must have hit a nerve for some reason. Their objection will probably be counter-productive.

There were some disputes several years ago, arising out of a company being discussed on here.

One reply said it was not officially supported by a certain publication, but merely had a banner advert appearing there (which was removed after the publication became aware of the spammed claim made here). Someone else pointed out a previous business of the proprietor had been fined by a regulator.

Despite these facts being factually provable, as well as anecdotal comments by former customers, MSE received representations on behalf of the company and publicly asked people to stop discussing it. That request remains on here years after the company ceased trading, closed down by a national body.

The former director has since been involved in certain other events in subsequent businesses, including some as discussed here on a thread started by a staff member. He had a business closed down by the High Court, and seemed to have some associations with some of the people involved, though wasn't one of those the staff member named.

None of this relates in any way to the company this thread is about, but might seem to show that sometimes MSE can tend towards rather cautious in response to legal representations received.

As far as I can see, the company of this thread in an estate agent specialising in some types of opportunity. The opportunity under discussion is an unregulated investment, and some articles about similar student pod schemes show that people saw lower yields or lost money.

Suggesting that some people would prefer to avoid the risks in such schemes can hardly be counted as defamatory.

Why not tackle it head on by telling MSE your name and convincing them that such comment is the DNA of MSE and you'd like to go back to AW with a defensive statement signed by you and MSE alike. And if MSE doesn't agree, then perhaps you could raise it with the likes of moneybox or thetelegraph. Or call their bluff and give details, it would make an entertaining little court case that loses them more than you.

I enjoyed the cat poop bakery analogy, but feel it's probably not the best to make. "Don't go near Greg's Bakery with a barge pole", "Don't go near Greg's Bakery investment with a barge pole", and "Greg's Bakery uses cat poop in their baguettes" are three very different claims.

I haven't tried it, but I expect you can find via Search many barge pole statements on this forum each month or year.

So, they seem to be quite within their rights to give out the personal information they collected, as defined in the privacy policy, to a third party in these circumstances - circumstances presumably being that the third party is complaining about their rights, under the law, to not be defamed, for which recourse includes legal proceedings and the web host's standard defence includes confirming the name and address of the transgressor.

I doubt the OP is complaining about any potential future release of identifying information in connection with legal proceedings. It's the release of such information directly to the company on first informal request. As a user of this forum I fully expect that the "circumstances" upon which details would be given out only entails legal proceedings and requests under law.

As can be seen here comments generally need to be seen as malicious or not honestly held by the author and not constitute "fair comment".

If it was me I'd spoil for the fight.

Some barge poles, and even a barge poll, used on official MSE (not the forum):
Some of these cards allow online applications too, the following is a list of stores and discounts, however please remember – only do this if you will pay off in full at the end of the month, otherwise don't touch it with a barge pole.

There are a raft of companies now offering to take on your claim for an upfront fee – don’t touch these with a barge poll.

So my post has duly been deleted and the thread closed.

For the record: I would not touch aspen woolf investments with a barge pole.

Or put another way, my advice to anyone looking at investment with aspen woolf would be:

"Don't touch with a barge pole"
Left is never right but I always am.
