We were told yesterday we are unable to have children, so still very tearful and down about things. We have already made enquiries regarding fostering and adoption. We started our DMP in Sept last year and I was really worried that we would not be able to go through if we deceided to adopt due to financial instability.

The advice on this thread has really helped us at this very low time. I wish you every success with the adoption, and please keep us posted on how this goes.

It's still early days for us, but one way or another we will have the sound of children in our home!

I'm so sorry to hear of your news. Chin up. And Good Luck with whatever decision you make.:A :A :A :A

  • I was adopted in the 60s and although my adoptive parents didn't have much money I had a loving home.

With all due respect there is a world of difference between being brought up in a home with "not much money" and being brought up in a home with a 70K debt cloud hanging over it.

As others have said the priority has to be the mental and physical wellbeing of the child.
  • I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that adoptive parents now have the same statutory rights to maternity/paternity leave as everyone else. So it should not be dependent on employers. Good luck with everything!

    hi hitback

I'm sorry to hear you received that sad news. Don't rush into thinking about adoption/fostering - you need time to grieve for the loss of your hopes of your own children. It is a big loss, so take time to deal with that before thinking of next steps.

From reading posts on here, it is clear that money problems are not in themselves a barrier to adopting, if you can demonstrate a responsible approach and that you can provide security for a child.

    Hi Seaxwyn

thank you for your kind message. We are just taking time out now to think about everything. Feels like everything against us this year , mum half way through chemo for breast & lympahtic cancer, and now this. I really felt good about starting our DMP and still know this is the right thing for us, but just as you think your are getting back up that ladder, along comes a great big snake!!

    Thank you for your support
