Tips on getting new sofa...

Hi Everyone

I've offered to buy my mother a new sofa as a gift and wondering if anyone has any tips on best places to buy nowadays. I don't use the internet much but I can if it's better to shop online.

I want to save money but not scrimp on quality. I live in Dorset but I also work in Southampton so, unless online, I'd be wondering where to look in those areas.

Also I'm looking to scrap a car, my second car was used by her but she no longer drives and wants it gone from her garage. Just helping her get a bit more sorted. Good places to call to get the car taken?

I don't change things domestically very much so I'm not used to all this! lol

Thanks everyone :-)

You haven't suggested a budget, so dismissing an alternative source so early is a big mistake.
Yes this forum is full of horror stories about furniture purchases, but giving the huge number 'sheds' sell and the years in operation, they must have millions of happy buyers.

The local independent near me, has only eye watering prices.
Yes, if I wanted a sofa to last 25 years, it would be money well spent. But tastes change, and so does my furniture.

Anyone know how long Ikea and John Lewis take to deliver sofas and white goods on average? We got an estimate on time from DFS, they were very helpful.

I'm waiting delivery of new sofa's. I found "simply stylish sofas" on line. After reading other customers feedback and finding the perfect colour we wanted, we ordered from them. Good prices as well.

go on gumtree/ebay and get a real stylish sofa for 50quid and you can get it the same day? :D I have bought some stuff for 1quid starting price ,however for 50pounds you should be able to find something really cool looking already.

My whole recently bought house has been furnished this way :D probably have spent like 250quid to fully furnish a 3bed house and you wouldn't know that they are used stuff other people throw away.
It may not be the latest models but I havent got a single Chipboard ikea furniture in my house , only top quality brands which would probably cost me 12-15k if bought new.

it was either that or to live without any furniture at all for few months as I was pretty much busted after having bought the house and not wanting to take any credit to buy furniture which is just stupid..
