I think it is a bit annoying. I suspect people will order more then take it back so as not to implement the £2 charge. i think £20 is more reasonable.

I do shop a fair bit in JL

But presumably having had the delivery service the charge wouldn't be refunded.

What charge? If you order over £30 worth of goods, there is no charge. Returns are free. So if what you want is under £30, order something else in addition, and return the additional item. This is the way to avoid delivery charges at lots of online shops.

Being that they are connected to Waitrose and that recently the glitches, free coffees and so on have been severally clamped down on.

To be fair, it's far more likely that they're trimming fat in order to compete more effectively. That said, they never appear on my shortlist of outlets to check for prices.

I'm sorry to hear that they will start charging for this, as I often order a brand of skincare on their website as they've stopped selling it in store! :(

I was wondering that, but know some companies (can't recall exactly who so wont name) would then refund the order minus the delivery fee as it went below the free delivery threshold. I know this has happened for fact but can't recall the exact company in question. Maybe if anyone ever gets to test this out they can say weather or not it also applies to John Lewis.

I'm not complaining here- I don't often shop at John Lewis, people like me don't often have that sort of money! :o so it's no real difference to me what they do, I'm not fussed.

These sort of comments often surprise me as some people seem to be under the misconception that JL is expensive. I regularly find them to be cheaper or at least equivalent in price to most high street retailers, plus they have better guarantees and customer service. Their slogan is "we will never knowingly be undersold" so if you find an item is cheaper elsewhere it's quite possible to haggle and get a price match :money:

It's not that I don't use JL for things because I believe they are more expensive- I've used them in the past, will use them again I hope. It's just that I so rarely buy any purchases where I'd need to price match. I don't often get money to make big purchases, I seem to be mostly buying food and the odd health and beauty product. Occasionally something will break and I need to replace it and that I see as a large purchase (eg my iron broke last month and I needed to replace it). It's not so much the prices, more that I just can't afford very many larger purchases. As much as I'd like to!

I've just noticed in the T&C on my delivery note that they will refund any delivery charges provided you return the whole order.
