I can't believe I heard this!
Tenant has just moved out of property and we discovered that the meter (electricity supply only to property) had been changed to a prepaid meter, without our knowledge. As the flats had been newly converted when tenancy was taken up, it was obviously a new meter at the time.
Just phoned BG to see what costs are involved in returning to credit meter, having gone through the various menus to speak to a human being, I was gobsmacked to get a recorded message telling me "we have system issues, please call back on Monday!" What?!
Does anyone have a rough idea of costs involved as it will be chargable to the tenants deposit?

BG won't charge costs for changing the meter, but will credit check you/the new tenant to get them changed.
Try 0800 048 0303 or 0330 100 0303 see if you have any more luck - they're open throughout the weekend.0 -
How long was your tenant in the property ? Suppliers don t need landlord permissions to fit a prepay if the tenant was defaulting on the credit meter as many do. I m surprised you want a credit meter as it just leads further energy payments at the whim of the tenant. Prepays are the same price as credit meters on standard/variable tariff. The prepays are there to stay if the tenant has a poor credit history , no ifs, no buts, I was credit checked on my credit meter when I did a switch to Eon last year, a very sensible thing to do and something all suppliers should be doing before accepting an account with anyone.Gettingtherequickly wrote: »I can't believe I heard this!
