We had the similar experience with Experian!

We applied for a mortgage, as I had recently got married my name changed so luckily my report was still showing my maiden name. I provided a copy of marriage certificate to lender. My husband on the otherhand had only recently moved to my address, Experian confirmed that they received data from our council in April (which should contain our details) and the information would be updated soon. To date it hasnt been updated. Luckily the lender accepted the letter confirmation from the council.

Each time I ring Experian, they are either waiting for information from the council or have received information and waiting an update due to higher registration (as a result of the election). Always a different excuse.

I registered with Equifax on Monday and what do you know, our Electoral detail is up to date!!

Hi Unity99.

Experian does receive the rolling registers from local authorities monthly, and we update from these as quickly as we can. Due to the amount of information it can sometimes take longer than we intend, and I am sorry that this has been the case for you.

I can take a look into this for you and find out what is happening with the requests that you have sent to us. Please email your details (name, DOB, address) to me so I can help with this.

Kind regards
Neil

Hi Neil,

I am in the exact same position.
We had an offer accepted and the only thing holding us back is our inability to obtain a mortgage due to Experian's lack of ability to update my partners electoral roll address. We have been on the phone countless times to Experian trying and push this through but there seems to be a lack of action. The council have confirmed they sent the new details to Experian in April and the council have even sent written confirmation to experian which we were cc'd on. Neil any chance you can also please help us or we will lose out on the house of our dreams?

Hi King-Slayer and Ads-150,

I appreciate the importance of the electoral roll being up to date, particularly when you are applying for a mortgage.

If you email your details to me I would be happy to investigate this further for you.

Kind Regards
Neil

• Same here Experian have once again made a massive error.

I have been on the Electoral Roll since February 2013 but my Experian Credit Report shows that I am not!

Utterly useless and means my credit report has had incorrect information since 2013.

Very angry with Experian right now.
• can you help me too neil?

Every year without fail Experian does not update my address, whilst Equifax and Callcredit have no problem at all

I have to undertake depressing dialogue with Experian to correct this, and they always blame the Council, even though it provides the address in the same correct format to all three CRAs

I now diarise the event every year so as to sort it out as soon as possible

In the past, Experian has held a whole raft of my info incorrectly (not so the other 2 CRAs) and I've had to do weeks of work helping them to get it right. They are entirely without shame and never offer compensation for their wide-ranging and repeating errors

I won't elaborate on my plans of what I'd do to Experian for fear of a dawn raid by heavily-armed Police Officers

I'm glad you managed to get your problem solved Unity99.

I'm going through a similar issue, where I've been on the electoral roll for the past 5 years and experian somehow managed to mess up my details and have my name recorded backwards. I even posted on here for some help and advice, no-one has bothered to respond to me and now the post has conveniently been deleted! Probably because they don't want any bad press/publicity, even though what I spoke was the truth. Their customer service is so unbelievably shocking and there's no-one to even complain to! I feel so frustrated and fed up :(
• We're (hubby& I) are having a very similar problem with Experian. We moved house in February and changed the electoral register in March, which was confirmed by the council by post.
Despite having an excellent credit score etc, we were recently refused credit for the first time. When we checked in the Experian report, our electoral roll address is still registered as our old address.
I rang yesterday to speak to Experian and the lady I spoke to said that due to a huge number of people registering on the electoral roll for the first time because of the recent General Election, Experian cannot cope with the sheer volume of changeovers and additions and are running months behind! I asked when it may be changed and she said it's highly likely it will be at least another 2-3 months, but maybe more!
I said we had recently been turned down for credit and she confirmed that this could have had some impact on the decision. She said I could email in to ask them to add notes explaining this was incorrect and that it was a fault on Experian's behalf but there is no guarantee that lenders will read the notes when they check your file.
Just seems a ridiculous system that lenders are using a company completely incapable of providing the correct information. As this also works in reverse, that people will also be offered credit via an incomplete/flawed report!
I've also put this post on another thread so really sorry if you've read it twice

Bear in mind that you are not a customer of the CRAs (unless you subscribe to one of their products). Their customers are the financial institutions who provide them with data about you.

It seems like these days when applying for a mortgage you need to go armed with a letter from the council showing you to be on the electoral register. CRA data cannot be trusted.
