Halifax Mastercard Overseas Charge

Having followed MSE's advice I used my Halifax Clarity Mastercard whilst on holiday in Italy. On every transaction I have been charged a "Non-Sterling Transaction Fee", which equates to 2.5% and wipes out the difference between using the card and using cash.

Is it a question or a statement?
Are you sure your card is 'Clarity'?
There are no any fees for Clarity. Fact.
And for a usual Halifax CC it's 2.95%, not 2.5%.0 -
Have you contacted Halifax?0

Here is their current list:- http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/
The Clarity card charges no 'non-sterling transaction fee', so you must have one of the others. Unfortunately, Halifax have never been very good at putting the name (other than just 'Halifax') on the front of their cards but your paper (or PDF) statement should be headed with the correct card name. The only clue seems to be that the Clarity cards have always been blue and all the other current ones seem to be black.0 -
It could be the particular ATM that you used which made the charge. Although if this was the case it should warn you when making the withdraw0

then I don't think the transaction would have appeared showing:martinbuckley wrote: »I have been charged a "Non-Sterling Transaction Fee", which equates to 2.5% and wipes out the difference between using the card and using cash.
More likely the the charge would have been rolled into the charge that appeared on the statement.0 -
I had been checking the exchange rates on this site:
http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/holiday-money/euros/collection/sevendays/300-pounds-worth#results
The picture is clearly a black card. I had a black card, exactly like that one and assumed that the card shown in the "best rate" on MSE would be the correct card - sadly it appears not!0 -
If you click on the button saying "Get One" you'll go to a page where it refers to it as the Clarity Card and has the correct blue one pictured.0

What did the Summary Box say when you applied? What did the paperwork say when the card came through?0
-
Ive had the black card for over two years now, so Ive no idea what the paperwork said when it came through.0

As I already had a black card like the one displayed in the link advertising the best rate, I didn't go deeper into the website to check it had to be a specific colour!0
