Earliest you can do preg test?

Not very MS I know...... but does anyone know if you can buy a pregnancy test that will confirm whether or not you are pregnant before your period would be due? i.e. a week after unprotected sex and period not due for another 2 weeks?

  • There is the first detector test, you can get them in boots but they are very expensive and not sure how reliable that early.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

i think the earliest you can test is 4 days before your due on and i think that is with clearblue tests
It only seems kinky the first time.. :A

Crispeater is correct. Some tests can be done up to 4 days before your period. The accuracy % is written on the instruction leaflet - sorry can't remember what it is although i do know that the closer you test to your period due date the more accurate the result.

Hope you get the result you want!

  • I got a very faint positive 7 DPO. Used the cheapy type sold over the internet. Good Luck!!!
  • Yes its 4 days but not all women have enough hormone in their wee to detect it this early. With my last little girl I did a test 4 days before my period was due and it was negative so it doesnt always pay to do it early.
  • it can take anywhere between 5 and 12 days after sex for the fertilized egg to implant.

you should wait, the earlier you do a test, the more chance of getting a false negative there is. try to hold out at least another week, you would be probably wasting your money.

I'm also chronically impatient. The internet will tell you that it is possible to get a positive 7 days before your period, but the manufacturers of the early pregnancy tests only claim 4 days before. Even then, they claim only 50:50 accuracy 4 days before, which rises a small amount (but not very much) until the day your period is expected when it is about 98% (depending on the test)

Trouble is I always calculate my times generously, then test early on the faulty calculation, then convince myself it is only negative because its an early test, so test again a few days later. By the time my period arrives (on day it is actually due) I've usually done at least three tests already which is not money saving at all! So my advice (which I am far too impatient to follow for myself!!) is to wait until the day you are due. Interestingly the two times I was actually pregnant, this is what I did and only had one test which was postive with each.

If you are going to buy tests id advise buying some off ebay! I know it sounds a bit worrying at first but when i come off the pill i bought some "just in case" .... i got 5 for about £2.60!

They are the ones used in doctors/hospitals apparently and the only difference is they are literally a littly carboard strip.. no fancy plastic outer etc. THEN if you DO get a positive.. you can always nip the chemist and purchase a more expensive plastic one if you want to "double check" or want to show anyone the result without showing a little bit of cardboard!

I agree with you Nicki, it would be a waste of money so I am trying to be patient and think of something else to take my mind off it!!

Johanne that is great, 5 for £2.60! Wow... I will do that thanks.

I have only just come off the pill so I am trying not to get my hopes up too much but it is so difficult!
