Ref the allowances can you appeal? Might be worth a trip to the CAB to ask for their advice about this. How about mystery shopping? There is a whole thread on here about that. Would be able to fit it around your other commitments.

My dad's classed as my mum's primary carer so i'm just an add on... even my dad's benefit is to be reduced as they are now of pension age - will see if CAB say anything different.
