autoglass repair? What's the catch?

So called "free" repairs are claims and still have to be declared.
Okay. I've just rung my insurers (Egg) and asked them about this.
They said that as the replacement was done at the expense of Autoglass following a failed repair relating to an earlier claim, it is not treated as a new claim and I don't have to notify them or any future insurers.
Obviously, the original repair (the one that failed and resulted in a new windscreen) was done via Egg and they already have that recorded.

Sorry, I wasn't disputing your warranty repair has anything to do with your insurer.
I was pointing out (for the benefit of others misunderstanding your post, which mentioned having had a dozen repairs) that these are recorded as claims, and that "free" repairs - which autosave encourage us to have done in carparks, saying they don't affect our insurance in fact have to be declared as claims for up to 5 years should we decide to move insurer.0 -

Fair enough, but I was saying that my replacement screen wasn't done via any sort of claim and therefore I don't have to declare it, according to my insurers. I queried it with them because you said "So called "free" repairs are claims and still have to be declared." but my insurance company said that the replacement was part of the original claim for the repair and doesn't need to be declared again.
However, I've always gone via the insurance company to get the repairs done and the dozen or so repairs cover many years of insurance and several different insurers. So far, none of the insurers that I have used have taken windscreen repairs into account when deciding on the premium (I always have to phone for quotes instead of getting them online as I have unusual insurance requirements) as they usually say that they are not interested when I mention them.
Perhaps some insurers are more relaxed than others?

Clearly!
(eg Swiftcover won't give you any NCD for the year in which you make use of the glass section of the policy)
And you regularly see "windscreen repair/replaced" in the drop down list which appears on online quotes/comparisons as an option when you answer "yes" to the question about any claims/losses?0 -
Come on guys, the rip off is that they are charging Barrister fees for a two minute job. You may not think this affects your premium or no claims discount but it does. Also you you need to have a nil excess for it to cost you nothing, 97% of claimants don't. So you have to pay - and just look at your quote next year even when you have paid because of your excess. - it's gone up quite a bit hasn't it ?? You are not allowed to have any accidental damage to your car even if it doesn't cost
the insurer anything, they will still put your premium up. Best thing that could happen to bring these
companies down to earth is for no-one to insure their cars. Clog up the courts with civil claims.
It's not just insurance companies that are basically ripping us off - refuse to pay your gas & electric bill, despite their profits these companies are cynically taking advantage of the unusual cold weather by raising their tariffs knowing we are all going to turn the heating up just in order to keep warm.
And what you may not know is that these corporate people (already millionaires) are getting cheap and sometimes free energy, simply because they work for the company. This will be con tinued becaquse I'm pretty angry0 -
Just to give some personal feedback experience here:
Today I took my car in to my local branch of Autoglass to get a crack fixed. They warned me that there was a risk that the crack could spread during the process of repair (resin repair) because it was a fairly large crack and was located less than an inch from the edge of the windscreen.
I said yes go for it.
They started the repair and it cracked. Now a 6-inch crack. Car still legally drivable, but would fail an MOT.
The price to repair it is around £250 I think, but I am fully comp with Swiftcover insurance and they said this insurance covers the repair, subject to me paying around £65 excess.
They said that it does not affect your no claims bonus.
I asked whether I would have to declare this as a "claim" if I was asking for a quote from an alternative insurance company in the future, and they said that they had never been asked that question before. After consultation with colleagues the lady said that no I would not have to declare this as a claim with other insurance companies.
Hope she's right.0 -

She's completely wrong!
With swiftcover, a claim for replacement windscreen does affect your NCB (none is awarded for the year in which you claimed).
Windscreen repairs/replacements are all claims and do have to be declared to future insurers.0 -
A windscreen claim is still a claim and must be declared BUT should not materially affect your quote. However I did read of someone who did not declare a windscreen claim when they took out the next insurance and it came back to bite them; the insurance company found out and charged them extra as they hadn't declared it.0
