Depending on his aerial, is buying a cheap freeview box out of the question? The type of TV doesn't matter.
If you got the Freesat route from Sky you need to buy a viewing card from Sky for £20.Dave. :wave:0 -

If you connect up a $ky box without an up to date card you can get all the channels broadcast in the clear - all BBC, sky news, Bloomberg, all radio, and lots of crap channels
You will not be able to get ITV and C4 and some others that soft encrypt - you need to buy a card to do that cost £20 from $ky0 -

The ITV channels have been FTA for quite some time, so no card needed there.
You'll need the FTV card for Ch4, Five, Five US, Five Life and Sky Three. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Wrong, the only " free " channels that require a card on Sky are Ch4. Ch5's (x 3) and Sky 3.
All other " free " channels work fine without a card, including ITV.
As Bextech has correctly stated.0
