I do sympathise and hope that you can find a solution. I know we are supposed to love our furry friends but I loathe and detest foxes......they cause so much dmage and leave their vile calling cards everywhere......I have tried everything to deter them - its fairly open plan so cannot physically stop them.

I agree with the person who mentioned the stipple stuff for the tops of fences...........the only think that worked for me for a while was jeyes fluid.....renardine is the only thing that completely deters foxes but it has been banned.......jeyes fluid comes close but can be dangerous to cats (another of our furry friends that i loathe and who cause detruction in my garden)....

    Good luck

PS - i have to say that if i had a gun there are many times i would have been tempted to use it................they may look quite sweet but they are loathsome and they are becoming rife in urban areas

As others have said best bet is prevention find out where they are coming from and seal off with chicken wire buried. You can get gizmos that realses jets of water when they detect motion. ]

On a side note I wouldn't worry about your grandchildren fox present very little danger to them. Its incredibly rare that foxes attack people, There was one last in the media but still think it was actually a dog attack.

Foxes will make a hole in ordinary chicken wire.

Use much stronger mesh to be sure of keeping them out.
