Holiday in Turkey - "Go" or "No Go"

Hi all,
I have a holiday booked for Turkey for myself and my family (wife and 2 kids), but recently the incident in Tunisia, and the reporting of this, and other potential terror threats, has left us feeling a little compromised with respect to our choice of destination.
Has anyone had these same thoughts?
Would you go on with it anyway, or would you contact your travel agent to arrange an alternative? I'm imagining that moving to a different destination might lose us the total money though?
What options are open to us? We booked with Thomas Cook through a high street Co Op Travel branch.
Thanks,
D

you need to contact your travel agent and find out what your options are, if you are feeling uneasy about going to Turkey on holiday.0

Terrorists attacks can occur anywhere, Paris, Madrid, London, New York...personally I wouldn't worry about Turkey any more than anywhere else.0

It appears that Turkey is a high risk country. The UK is currently a SEVERE risk country.0

Co-op Travel will explain your options.wotnoshoeseh wrote: »Hi all,

As you're not travelling to Tunisia I personally wouldn't be expecting to be able to cancel and get all monies paid back but you won't know until you speak to Co-op.
If I had a holiday booked to Turkey, I'd still be planning on going - assuming it's one of the usual resort places.0 -
I'm in a bit of a dilemma as well, I originally booked to go to Djerba, we had to cancel as my other half was taken ill and now can't fly, that just left myself and out 12 year old daughter, daughter wasn't keen on going to the hotel in Djerba in the first place, this all came about at about the same time as the Bardo Museum shootings, we opted to change and booked The Crystal Waterworld Resort and Spa, Belek, Turkey as it had a waterpark. Now I'm starting to get a little worried, I don't know why, it's a bit silly really as we regularly go on day trips to London which is probably a much higher risk.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

What does your daughter want?
Would the illness enable you to claim on your insurance if you were to cancel?0 -

Daughter wants activities and water slides rather than just sitting around chilling out which is what my other half needs as she's not very mobile, hence why when we looked at changing/cancelling, we looked at more active holidays ie places with water parks etc, we narrowed it down to either the Sahara Beach in Skannes which would've meant no extra to pay out but still Tunisia and a bit out in the sticks, the other option was the Crystal Waterworld Resort at Belek which looked ideal, though we had to fork out more money.
As for insurance, had it been myself or daughter taken ill then I have travel insurance through my bank account, however, my partner needs special insurance and it's expensive (multiple health issues, including Bi-Polar Disorder) so i hadn't sorted it out at the time she became ill, that said we didn't really loose much from what we'd already paid by cancelling her and changing so one pretty much cancelled out the other.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Go.
Turkey is the same risk as Spain, Italy and Greece at the moment. The UK is on severe.
I live in London and I would feel safer in a Turkish resort than in central London at the moment.
Terror attacks can happen anywhere but the chances of being caught up in one are actually miniscule.0 -

True, like I said it's just a silly niggle, my daughter and me often go to London for a day out and think nothing of it even using the tube.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Definitely go as others have said0
