Horrible Construction at Benone

Sorry, I know this isnt anything to do with money saving but just wanted to highlight the horrible looking building they are putting up at Benone strand. Over the winter the 2 round buildings at the entrance to Benone were demolished to make way for a new building. Now first of all the 2 round buildings which were there for years and held toilets showers etc etc, were horrible looking buildings and spoiled the look of the place. But now the new building they are putting up is the biggest monstrosity I've ever seen. how on earth they came up with that design i'll never know. i'm guessing it cost a small fortune to hire an architect. It just dosnt suit the location in an shape or form. I think it will end up a laughing stock
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

So there is no toilet there at all now? In july?0

It's the norm to build monstrosities now. Just look at the Giants Causeway visitor centre, it looks and feels like a crematorium. Something was required there, but not that eyesore. All this 'public art' is IMO nothing but purile scrap at high prices. And it's everywhere!0

I have neve been to Benone. Does anyone know if it is accessible by public transport?0

Noticed it myself last week and thought the same. It is not pretty.
Jenheiffer as far as i know there is a bus service from Coleraine and Limavady that stops right at the end of the road to the beach, its about a mile from there to the beach. The nearest train stop is about 2 and a half miles away in Bellarena, trains from Coleraine and Londonderry use this stop.0 -
jenheiffer, flipperni is correct. There is a regular bus service running between Coleraine and Limavady which stops at the end of the road down to the beach. Wouldnt say its a mile though to the beach from there. More like just half a mile. Plus you have to walk past the caravan sites and shop etc so it dosnt seem too bad a walk. If youve never been there do yourself a favour and come. To me its the best beach in the world. Pretty much unspoiled ( apart from the subject of this thread ) Great beach leading from Magilligan point to Downhill/Mussenden Temple, although at times part is closed off due to closeness to army firing range. Also they have the tourist complex which has kids swimming pool, play area, tennis courts and 9 hole golf course. There are boardwalks through the sandhills and apparently they are constructing more. Sorry for turning this into a tourist advert but I love Benone and had a caravan down there for years. When we go out on a Sunday for a run in the car we always end up at Benone to see whats happening.I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0

I have not seen it, but I bet it wins an architectural prize. Those sorts of buildings always do.0
