Hi,
I am having problems with an upstairs loo. The inlet is constantly dripping, so much so that once the cistern has filled to about 2" below overflow pipe, left unflushed overnight, the cistern has completely filled to overflowing by morning.
Even when I press and hold the arm with the ballcock tight against the inlet bit, the thing still drips? I have taken it apart & the washer inside looks OK
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

It sounds like the washer or seat is damaged
Take a look here and click on water inlet valves- DIY Plumbing
It explains how to change the washer or replace the inlet valve completely.
Replacing the whole thing may be your best option.0 -

There ought to be an isolating valve on the water supply to the ballcock. You may want to turn this off at night until you repair replace the ballcock."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
