Virgin Media Default

Good Afternoon
I am after some help and advice please. My partner and I are looking at buying our first house together. I am a bit worried as last year I managed to get myself in a bit off a mess with my Virgin Media account. I was renting a house and purchased my TV, Phone and internet with Virgin media, but I struggled to keep up with payments. Virgin cut me off and I left my rented house and move back with my parents (I did not notify Virgin).

I was worried this would have an effect on my credit score when I applied for a mortgage , so I decided to sign up with Experian credit report; I found that there was a payment of 216 pound which virgin media has not received. I guess this payment was for when I decided to relocate and abandon virgin media services. I understand I need to pay this and have no problems doing so.

With me moving address I have never been contacted to make the payment. From what I can see they have recorded a Default and 10 late payments on my credit file.

After doing some research am I right in thinking that if I pay them the £216 then the credit report will show as it's settled, but I will still have 10 late payments recorded? This is not what I want to happen I want to make sure that this is fully removed from my credit report.

Please can you offer some advice on how to remove this from my credit report? Would it be best to do everything in writing so I can keep a copy or give them a call? I am more than happy to clear the balance of £216, but I want to make sure that it is cleared from my report and I am doing things correctly.

Any advice you can give me on how to write to them would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the time

Regards,

Sam

Yes, it would just be marked as satisfied but late payments and the default would remain for 6 years from the default date.

If the record is accurate, then apart from appealing for a gesture of goodwill, which seems unlikely, it's very unlikely you will be able to get it removed ahead of time.

you wont get it removed, its hard enough getting them to remove incorrect migration data never mind
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

So let me get this straight. . You signed up for Virgin Media TV, Phone and Broadband, use the service for a couple of months, decide not to pay anymore then move address without telling them.

Your credit file is a factual file on how you have treated and serviced your credit responsibilities over the past 6 years thus there is no way they would remove the default.

Good luck with the Mortgage application..

That’s correct– I don’t really want to go into my circumstances as to why I had to leave, but it was a difficult time for me I was after some help and advice not a comment saying good luck with the Mortgage application...

Everyone goes through difficult times at some point in their lives, but everyone knows bills need to be settled before they go AWOL. I'm surprised you didn't have a GAIN marker on your report.

With a recent default on your file, you'll find it hard to get accepted for a mortgage at a decent rate.

If I where you I'd pay it quickly in case they go for a CCJ, now they have your new address.

I had exactly the same situation. I have just paid mine off so at least the default will show as satisfied.

Hope the mortgage application is ok.
