Fibre Optic Modem Router

I used to have fibre optic broadband with Sky and had a Sky Hub to go with it. I then switched from Sky to Plusnet but in order to get fibre optic broadband not only do I have a Plusnet router but I also have to have an Openreach modem. I have no idea why Plusnet can't supply one contraption like Sky, BT and many other broadband providers offering fibre optic broadband.
I would like to buy my own router so that I can just have one box plugged into the wall instead of two. I've had a search online but I'm a bit bamboozled by all the choices. Some of the routers that get good reviews are pretty expensive and probably too advanced for me. Can anyone recommend a decent, not-to-complicated all-in-one device I could buy, or at least point me in the right direction?
There's only me in the house so it would be unusual to have multiple people connected to my wifi. I'm not a gamer of any description but I do watch catch up tv and films on Netflix which is probably the most wifi hungry things I do.

The one I'd go for would be one of the Draytek Vigor 2860 VDSL models - but the cheapest, non-WiFi, variant costs £179!
What fazes you about having a modem and a router as separate boxes?0 -

It's more cables, more clutter, another socket being used in a property that's already short of sockets. (just moved in and will be getting a spark in to install more sockets).0 -
That looks just the ticket. Thank you.0 -
This one is quite highly regarded too.0

Avoid the ASUS DSL 66U (VDSL) as it has firmware issues.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

I'm interested in this topic also, I'm thinking of going to PlusNet Fibre shortly, maybe august/September.
Would the BT Home Hub 5 not be a option ?0 -
In the end I plumped for the TP-Link. It should arrive on Thursday.0

I could be wrong (it's a strong possibility) but I think the BT Home Hub is locked to BT Retail although it is possible to unlock it.

I've just got the 2860ac (£249). Bought mainly for the AC, VLAN and multi-NAT capability. Can start using my 8 block of IPs againThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
