Car off road for 8 hours, need to SORN?

I'm taking over/buying my son's car today. He has taxed it until September so should get a refund of 2 months once they get the V5C. Clearly I don't want to tax it today, as that would be a whole month for a few hours tax. I intend to leave it on my drive until tomorrow, then tax it from then.
Does one of us have to SORN it for a few hours, I can only do it, as the new keeper, by printing off and sending in a V890 with the new keepers supplement, which by the time it leaves the postbox in the morning will be no longer relevant as I will have taxed it by then. Same if my lad SORNs it.
Can I just leave it on the drive and tax it tomorrow or will they be chasing me for the "lost hours" of tax.
Thanks for any help, Rich.

You should be ok as he will have taxed it until end of today and you'll be taxing it from tomorrow, you don't need to SORN it as there wont be a gap0

Thanks Glentoran, that makes sense.0 -
It doesn't need to be taxed if it's on a private driveway, so the gap isn't a problem.
It does, however, need to be continuously insured.0 -

But if it's not taxed then it needs to be SORNed. I can't see it being an issue in this case, but your suggestion that untaxed on a private driveway is OK is simply wrong.

No need for tax, insurance or MOT if the car is on private land, so long as it is SORN. As it happens the car is both MOTd and insured, it was just the need and practicality of SORNing it, relating to the tax, overnight that I was concerned about.0
