  • Haha so many wonderful posts on here that really made me chuckle. I wasn't blessed with children, but if I had I think I would go down the honest route by telling them they were brought to us by a stork. Honesty is the best policy!
  • My sister was explaining to her two year old about the baby growing in mummy's tummy.
Two year old listened intently then said 'open your mouth let me see' while scrambling upon her to prise her mouth open and peer in.
    So funny.
  • My 11 year old daughter returned from school after a sex education lesson and when asked by her mum how it went said "eeeeeewww it's disgusting..............and you and daddy have done it twice"

Best to be honest because I thought that I grew on a bush until I was 50, I just assumed that's how it was in those days.

My sis told my nephew that Mommy lays an egg & Daddy fertilises it, but then he thought that the egg was dropped in the blankets .... so Daddy had to come clean & discuss the S word.
  • Wait until your 11 year old son comes out of a public toilet and asks why there are flavoured condoms in the machines!

whenever the question arises take a deep breath and ask them "what do YOU think it is honey?"
That way you can gauge what they know against what they need to know.
I'll admit to nearly crashing my car when my eldest asked about Dildos and Vibrators in the car on the way back from school when he was 11 and DS#2 was 7!
AND having an embarrassed parent tell me that DS#2 had told her twin sons all about 'the birds and the bees' using the anatomical names for the parts involved... I wasn't embarrassed.
I'm with Maggie.Moo when it comes to telling them (although we do still have Santa and the tooth fairy).

My 6 year old daughter asked me where babies came from. I was expecting her brother at the time.

"Well Daddy puts a seed in Mummy and it grows into a baby". I said.

She thought a bit and asked "How does the seed get there?".

I hesitated, didnt know how to explain but my eldest who was about 11 at the time thought he was being helpful shouted from the other room. "They sh@g, have you never heard the bed squeak?".

I nearly choked on my coffee.

  • I told my daughter that daddy gives mummy a seed which she plants in her tummy and it grows into a baby. I then heard her tell Grandma that mummy swallowed daddy's seed and had a baby!!
  • When our kids were young the 'house' rule for Sunday morning was 'tidy up our bedroom's', worked great until our daughter got to about 9 when she used to push her way into our room (after thoroughly cleaning her room) to inspect how well we had done. We failed inspection every time :-)
