Hi All,
Not sure if anyone can help but here's my problem.
I have a website in memory of my young daughter who passed away .Its really only family and friends that look at it.(lots of kids)
My guestbook is being "hijacked" by people putting links to pornography on it . The messages are nice enough but in broken english and there is a link to click . Can i block these people or do i have to close the guestbook completely.
Luckily it is happening each time in the early hours of tuesday morning so i am able to edit them within a few hours but its quite distressing.
I am really bad at this computer lark so any advice at all would be appreciated.

It's hard to block them completely, and is one of the main problems of running any kind of publicly accessible site. Many sites with guest books or posting options like this allow the site owner to configure it so that all posts have to be approved before they appear on the site, so you might want to look into that option with whoever designed the site. You still have the work to do, but you can do it before these "people" get the publicity, not afterwards. And if you can't get on there for a few days, at least you know it will remain clean until you can.

Indeed public guestbooks can be abused by bots. The only way to get over this is to make it private. Either members only can post, OR, posts are approved first.

You should recreate your site on Facebook where you can easily approve anyone before they can post, in other words just approve your family and friends.

Thankyou so much!!! I didn't realise that i might be able to view and approve posts before they appear on the guestbook so I will look into it .
I am really new to this so i appreciate your advice.
I hate the though of anyone clicking the link by mistake like i did the first time.

Have got it sorted now.
I have to approve all guestbook entries.
I will get all the nasties now and so no one else will see them.
