I add loads of stuff to mine.

The basic salad leaves i use are Rocket, Spinach and lambs lettuce.

Then i add things like (not all at once of course!) cooked sweet potato, grilled/roasted veggies, mini roast potatoes, rice, hummus, pesto, salsa, grated carrot, avocado, pumpkin/sesame/sunflower seeds, black beans, sweetcorn, courgette or carrot ribbons, beansprouts, water chestnuts, falafel, cooked lentils etc.

Can you please add them all at once and can I please come for tea???:rotfl:

That's how I love salad. Just a mix of flavours, textures and colour

When we were kids salad always had a hard boiled egg , cheese and a slice of meat along with the lettuce toms and beets. And the salad cream. So boring

I saw mini roast potatoes and first thought was 'oh I could just take a tub of those into work and scoff them all day' :rotfl:

What else do you put with them?

LOL, sure, I'll start the cooking :D I love salads, but hate boring salads, so love to add all sorts of fun and yummy things. People always complain that salad is boring, but its never boring if you find exciting things to add.
And roasted sweet potato is just AMAZING!

Haha, go for it, nothing wrong with scoffing the lot!

I just put whatever i have with them really. A lot of it is whatever i have in the fridge/cupboards, as well as just whatever i fancy.

With roasted potatoes (especially sweet potatoes- i LOVE them) i put in a wrap with salad, vegan mayo and sweet chilli sauce or salsa.

Seriouisly, you HAVE to try it! Dont be bound by boring rules that say what you SHOULD put in a salad (or ANY dish), just go for what you enjoy and feel like.

Hmmm have to buy fresh salad type foods today as fridge is empty, but I'm also thinking I have to make those mini roasties.

I have a chorizo sausage in fridge that needs using up so I'm going to try making a chorizo & roasties salad, doesnt matter if I need to warm it up as have a microwave at work.

I often do roast vegetables in the summer (sometimes on the BBQ) roast peppers, aubergines, tomatoes, onion rings, garlic, courgette.
I do extra, add a little oil & balsamic vinegar (just a few drops, a bottle lasts me well past the use by date!) then add to almost anything to eat as salad: rice, cous-cous or bulgur wheat, chick peas or beans.
Sometimes chop in a tiny bit of cooked chorizo, ham or even an extra bit of bacon snipped into pieces.
You do have to be careful with rice, cous-cous etc. I think the usual advice is to refrigerate and eat the following day but not to keep any longer.

We had a hard boiled egg OR cheese OR a slice of meat, with lettuce, cucumber, tomato & salad cream with sliced white bread & butter - you were spoilt!

Have you tried some of the more unusual lettuces? Iceberg is quite bland and unexciting but some of the other salad leaves can be really nice.
Chinese leaf is somewhere between lettuce and cabbage and is great as a lettuce leaf or in coleslaw.
I like using little gem leaves as "boats" for toppings - great if you want a bread free lunch. Had some gorgeous prawn and peanut sauce ones on Friday.

As others have said, be adventurous and see what you can come up with! Even left over baked beans can be tasty (like a bean salad with tomato sauce!)

Hi, I'm usually found at the MFW board, but thought I'd expand my Horizons. Spinach, Cucumber, tomato, mushroom (raw), red onion, sweet pointed peppers, and the secret ingredient - Pineapple chunks (fresh not tinned) and instead of a dressing - use lemon Juice - cheap and no calories!

P.S. I'm another one that much prefers spinach to lettuce!
