No previous credit

I've not had credit before I moved in to my new flat 2 months ago. Since then I've opened a basic bank account as well as a 30-day rolling SIM contract and a Sky contract, both of which I've paid on time so far.

I'll be on the electoral register (for the first time) from tomorrow.

I know all lenders/creditors are different but assuming I continue to pay bills by DD on time etc I was wondering roughly how long it would take to be accepted for low/poor score credit cards etc?

(PS I'm grateful for any advice or assistance but having lurked here for a while it seems some people prefer to judge and criticise, I'm respectfully pointing out that I'm not interested in that and any such replies will be ignored....peace and love...)

You could try now. But if declined, then I'd give it 6 months.

I went several years following an IVA without any form of credit and a largely blank credit file after all of the defaults/IVA had dropped off.

I had no problems getting card from Vanquis; provided you have an income and nothing bad on your file you will probably find it quite easy. After 6 months of sensible use and paying in full (important due to high interest rates) I was able to go mainstream; from there on no issues but I have kept all my accounts in good order and have paid what I do owe in full each month. Mainstream cards are more likely to be looking at your income.

Don't be upset when they offer you a really low credit limit, that seems fairly normal. The electoral role could be your main problem. Suggest you sign up for a free credit report from Noddle (always free, none of that trial stuff). Once that shows you as being on the electoral register it will mean that lenders will also see it. I don't know how long the credit agencies take to update electoral data.
