There was a story in the Mail on Sunday about a couple who had a long battle with British Gas. They were receiving bills when BG weren't even their supplier. Even though they proved this in court BG still chased them for the money.
Anyway, my impression is that the energy supplier needs to prove that this money is owed. Maybe there is some sort of register in the meter itself that records the payments, especially if it is an eletronic version? Have they got your details correct ie: meter number (BG had incorrectly recorded the one above). Anyway, you couldn't have had the electricity if you hadn't paid for it. Bloody card meters-they mark up the cost by 1/3 again.
Don't let it ruin your relationship, you have a beautiful baby that you need to make the most of cos they don't stay that small for very long.0 -

You can actually. That's the rub. Key meters will only accept your key, but tokens aren't linked to a meter, so you could use somebody else's or stolen tokens in the meter.Don't let it ruin your relationship, you have a beautiful baby that you need to make the most of cos they don't stay that small for very long.

I had same problem last year due to mix up between Scottish Power and Staywarm. When Staywarm asked me to produce over 3 years receipts I said you must be joking.Lucky for myself I did have them all so got refunded over £2000 but if I didnt have them I would have got nothing.Where Utilities are concerned its best to keep all your receipts and that includes Council Tax unless you pay by Direct Debit0
