ESA Assessment

Dear All,

I was wondering if someone can help me. I have been suffering from Depression/Anxiety for the best part of around 6 years. Unfortunately, over the past 6 months or so it has gotten worse. I have been having a lot of panic attacks/depression episodes. I cannot work any more as a result as I am literally struggling to do anywork and I feel as if I am suffering.

Now, I have an assessment for DWP later this week, and I cannot seem to go. Just the thought of it is nerve wracking and I even had an anxiety attack just thinking about it. I don't know what will happen and as silly as it may sound, it's just the way I feel now. I have evidence from doctors that I am ill, but I can't seem to go to this appointment.

Is there any way I can delay this assessment till I feel better or perhaps have another way of being assessed? I barely even leave the house due to anxiety so this is too much for me to bare. I am just scared that I will lose my benefits.

Thanks

If you don't go your payments will be stopped until you get another appointment. What makes you more anxious, attending or having no money?

It's natural to be anxious about the unknown, but what is the worst that is going to happen if you do go? All that will happen is they'll ask you questions about your day to day activities, and you just answer honestly. There's really nothing to worry about.
  • It might be the best time for you to attend the assessment. They will see you at your worst.

Have you get anyone to go with you?

I'm not sure that they will delay the assessment, although you could always ask. If you really want to delay the appointment due to how you feel at the moment, then I suggest you get someone to contact them on your behalf.

Have you requested that your assessment be recorded?
Do you have support of a good GP? if so they can request a home assessment if appropriate.
