I have done some lovely 'home made takeways' of late - duck stir frys etc (really quick) - but I must admit tonight we are having a huge Chinese (it was our 8th anniversary a few days ago, and we thought we'd save it for the weekend so we could have some wine - also naughty I know)Is it payday yet?

A blow out once in a while is a good idea, as is not having to cook
But to make food to eat and live off is human nature and people are bothering less and less. Grrrr!!!!!!!
Tomorrow - chicken breast fillets, incised and filled with mozarella, pesto and a bit of garlic. Served with my home made garlic bread.0 -
I get a kilo of minced steak mix in 1tbs ground cumin. 1tbs ground coriander, 1 oxo cube , 3dashes of tabasco sauce, 1tps ground garlic . Makes a dozen quarter pounders beef burgers, i use a press from Lakeland plastics and then you can freeze them with the wax discs on. Great healthy junk food fast and delicious..
Make my own pizzas as well using half fat cheeses so you can help the waist line but havnt as yet tried to freeze one.0 -
We just bought a couple of these:
Glass container with lid
I was looking for an all-glass container that I could use in the freezer and the small version of this seems just right for a portion of HM curry. I don't have a problem resisting Chinese takeaway as stir-fries are pretty quick and easy, but Indian (made from scratch, not using curry sauces) takes awhile & makes a mess in the kitchen (especially when making three different things, which is what I usually do), so next time I make one I'm going to do extra and freeze it. Here's the one I made last time, really nice.
Augergine curry with coconut milk
I subbed a few leaves of lemon balm for the lemongrass as I didn't have any, and soy sauce for the fish sauce as we're veggie. Also subbed onion for shallot as that's all I had. And I use the little blocks of coconut instead of coconut milk, much cheaper and no preservatives like in the coconut milk.
Anyone have a good recipe for Chana Dal from scratch? The ones I make never taste the same as what you get in a good Indian restaurant.
:AI want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.0 -
For me, they are garlic, chilli, cumin and whatever herbs you like - I tend to use basil and oregano. Never buy the packets myself cos OH thinks mine is better!

tesco's barbecue seasoning powder (about 59p a jar, you only need a few teaspoons in a recipe) is great for fajitas. it's smokey and tastes as good as the el paso/discovery mixes. you just need to add a bit of chili powder to give it a kick.
boo, would your bf notice if you subbed quorn pieces for chicken?
you can buy that frozen and then defrost it in the microwave and fry it up with some chopped onions and peppers, adding whatever spices or pastes you fancy.
then there's couscous. the ultimate lazy cook's low fat food.
you just measure out the amount you need and add boiled water, leave it to stand for 5 mins and then fluff up with a fork.0 -
brix, isnt cous cous low in fat but high in calories? i love the stuff but always thought it was calorific?0
