Combi Boiler/Hot water problems

Hi

Just after a bit of advice before I ring around for a plumber to come and have a look at my boiler. I have a combi boiler and am not getting any hot water when I turn on the hot tap. The heating light is slowly flashing on and off (though the heating is switched to off). Any ideas what this could be and how much I could have to pay to get it sorted?

(I am not intending to do anything myself - just want an idea before someone comes out & rips me off).

Thanks for any help.

Before you call a plumber, it could be something really simple, when our combi boiler does this it's the water pressure in the system.

Somewhere on the front of your boiler there will be a water pressure gauge, with the safe level for the pressure to be at marked, if it's lower than the level you need to top it up. There will be a small tap somewhere on your boiler near where the water pipe goes in (Possibly on the bottom) turn this a little to let more water into the boiler, you should slowly see the pressure level rise, when it's about central on on the gauge turn the tap back off. If you have your boilers instructions, it should tell you where the tap and gauge are.

Good afternoon: Do you have the installation guide/user manual for your boiler? If you have it handy, it will usually have a fault finding guide/flow chart of faults. If not, many manufacturers have manuals available for download on their websites. It would be easier to figure out what ails your boiler if you included details about it i.e. make, model, service history and so on.;) Please don't assume that you are going to be 'ripped off'...if this is a concern, call friends, family or colleagues and ask for personal recommendations...most good CORGIs get work by word of mouth.
