Hi, I wondered if anyone could help?

My 60 plate 308 has started making a 'gravelly' sound over the last couple of days. I suspect it's something to do with the clutch - it seems OK with the pedal down, but when sitting in neutral with the pedal up it's quite noisy. It's done 29k miles. Had a look under the bonnet and have crawled around underneath as far as I can and the noise seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine. Engine itself sounds fine.

I'd be grateful if someone could give me some pointers - wondering if it's going to be £100's or £1000's to repair - plus, I don't want to be taken for a ride if it's something straightforward.

Sorry for the essay, but wanted to give as much info as possible.

Many thanks in advance.
Cheers
D.

thrust bearing possibly , but getting to that may make it easier to replace whole clutch

  • Could be release bearing, or DMF. Either way, the gearbox is coming out - so replace clutch and flywheel at the same time to avoid a further bill down the road.
