What to look for in wooden flooring

Could someone give me some advice about wooden flooring, there are so many shops/showrooms out there. Where to start?
1 I like the idea of solid wood, but hear that engineered wood is better because it adapts to changes in temperature etc. True or false?
2 If so, what is the minimum thickness of wood I should look for (if this applies to engineered wood).
3 Which types of wood are the most durable? Oak, bamboo, teak?
Any other tips/advice much appreciated.

I went for engineered as my research indicated that (1) was true. I can't say for sure yet as it's not even been laid. I've gone for a Kahrs engineered plank in oak as I liked the look of it and the actual wood layer is thicker than some.
SHould be down in the next couple of weeks, hopefully!Debbie0
