Hi
I have just downloaded ccleaner as I have read good reports on it, but I have no idea which boxes I need to uncheck. I don't want to risk losing anything such as photo's, favourites, Roboform and as I do competitions like to stay logged in to sites. Advice would be gratefully received.

why did you do that? , doing a basic clean-up should include deleting unused files , drive "x"(right click) / properties / disk clean-up/ THEN set it to delete un used system files , then a good defrag

Same reason as I don't empty the bin by my desk each day, I suppose.

Some days I think ... 'whoops, I chucked that, whereas I need it now'!!

If you just reduce the capacity of the Recycle bin your deleted items will be recycled as intended quicker. As it reaches capacity older files are automatically deleted. There is no reason to physically empty it regularly unless you want to.
A full recycle bin has little impact on your PC's speed unless your hard drive is nearing full.
Of course there are other reasons for emptying your recycle bin, which makes the frequency a matter of personal choice.
