Co-op Bank Account any good?

subject says it all really, I need to open a basic bank account and this one from a link seemed pretty good but I wanted to know what others thought. Also are there actual co-op banks or is it an online only thing? Can I deposit money into this account other than online if it is an online account?

  • Hi - Not sure about personal accounts, but my business account is with the Co-op and I have nominated my local post office so that I can use it to withdraw and deposit monies.

With the business account, found it took a long time to actually process and having been with another high street bank for some 20+ years didnt find their customer service/website user friendly. However, having said that now that the account is up and running have no qualms with them now.

    Hi

We opened an account with the Co Op after being chucked out of Nat West when we set up our DMP with CCCS, and they have been great! We have Visa Electron debit cards, online banking, and you can pay in and withdraw cash at post offices! We also receive regular statements and would recommend them to anyone!

I rang them to set up a cashminder account, and explained our situation to them, and they said this would be no problem, as our account does not have an overdraft facility, and we do not have cheque books, this has really helped us to get back on track!

    Good Luck

They do have branches, but they are relatively few and far between. However you can deposit and withdraw money at post offices, and can do pretty much everything else on the net or over the phone. They have an excellent internet banking service, one of the best - far better than the clunky Halifax one.

    Their website is http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk

    Or you can call them on 08457 212 212 or 01695 53760

    sorry, not been logged on!

I applied over the telephone after getting their number from their website as per Tirian's post above!

They then sent forms through the post for my husband and I to sign and after that we received our welcome pack inculding debit cards, paying books and all the info we needed about where we can draw cash 9 Post Office, Link machines etc - just watch out for the machines which still charge!)
I wishe we'd done it before! On one occasion when we had a problem with our debit card, the bank credited our account with £15 as they said they had not met their customer service level!

    Hi...

I have been with the co-op for 18years, everything was fine until I got into financial trouble, and now they dont want to know at all.

If you can manage to keep you account running normally then you will be fine, but I ran into trouble over the last 12 months with going over my overdraft etc, and they were no help at all.

Now with the Lloyds who are more approachable with face to face contact rather than "armchair banking".

Good luck with them, I am sure you will be fine.
