Hi guys,

I have around 100 videos I need to import off my Sony camera to my iMac.

I have just imported then through lightroom, but when I play the videos back the video is really jumpy, and not the quality it should be.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Just a hint - don't call people geeks, its not very nice.

Have you checked they have imported in the correct file format, or if any conversion has taken place, that the correct format for OSx playback is there?

How can I check to see if I have imported the correct file format?

Or if any conversation has taken place?

I am new to this iMac so bare with me

Is the soundtrack playing ok? It could just be the computer you're playing the files on dropping the frame rate if it's not up to the task. Especially if in the background it's converting whatever you are importing into another file type. This will make it appear jumpy.

Too many variables without knowing the specifics of what you are doing.

Whatever you do, back up, back up, back up. Keep the original files saved elsewhere while you're playing around importing things. If it's from cards then write protect them to stop iMac writing to to the card.

    Hi,

Not really knowledgeable enough to declare it the best way but when I swapped over from PC to Mac I just imported all my Panasonic camera files (.mt2s files) straight in from where I had them safely stored (external hard drive) via the iMovie import option. It worked fine, just pointed iMovie to the folder and it did the rest. Now I just stick the cards in when they're full and do the same.

I think Sony use the same .m2ts file type in their cameras, the format is AVCHD but the .m2ts is the container which varies.

I've not used Light room but iMovie is very good, certainly enough for home movie use. There's loads of tutorials on Youtube.
