Laptop Screen Faulty

Hi all

Not sure if this is the right section to post in, my apologies if it is not.

I have an Acer laptop it is 15 months old and yesterday it seems like the bulbs have blown in the screen. If I stick the screen right up to my eyes I can make out the outline of what is on the screen. The laptop works fine in itself and if I use the duplicate HDMI output I can see everything fine. For example I am typing this out using that method on said machine.

Now I know the warranty is 12 months but was wondering if anyone knew what my chances were of getting a free repair under the Sale of Goods act where the item should last a reasonable amount of time or with EU directive 1999/44/EC. 'A two-year guarantee applies for the sale of all consumer goods everywhere in the EU. In some countries, this may be more, and some manufacturers also choose to offer a longer warranty period.'

It depends on the retailer and if they want to try and wear you down to avoid a claim, who is the retailer ?

As for the screen, sounds like you need a new screen. Depending on the model (EXACT model ?) this can normally be done DIY for about £40 and is not difficult to do.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

The retailer was Amazon. I was hoping to deal with acer direct as I believe they have a local repair agent. But yeah I may have to find the cash (things are tight at the moment) to try a DIY repair.
  • Update: Have now spoken with Amazon and they are getting the legal team to email within 48 hours.
