Cost of motor claim for comparison sites

In the last 12 months I had a fault claim (my own vehicle only) and two windscreen claims (one repair, one replacement - Ford electrically heated with wiper/lights sensors). I have protected NCD but as expected my renewal premium has increased, so I've started to shop around, but have hit a snag.

Following the MSE guide I put my details into Google Compare first, and they have a question that I've not seen before. For any claim they want to know the cost of that claim - it appears that it's not the cost to me (which I know, and is the policy excess applicable to the relevant claim) but the cost to the insurer (which I don't know).

Who would you ask to get this information? I tried the RAC, who take the premium, but they said they didn't know, so would you go to the insurance company and to the windscreen company, and do you think they would be prepared to provide this information? The chap at RAC was surprised it was being asked for, his view, and I agreed with him, is that a claim is a claim and the cost of that claim shouldn't be relevant.

I haven't looked at the other comparison sites yet to see if they all ask this, I've not seen it before but it's a long time since I last had a claim to declare (possibly in the pre-comparison era).

They all ask. I've if to supply this info for many years.

You need to ask the insurers.

It clearly is relevant if you are being asked about it. It has always been a relevant question as far as I can recall.

RAC's website even asks for it when you try for a quote
    Claim Cost
Please provide an indication of the total cost of the incident, including any compensation for personal injuries. Please call us for a quote if you are not sure

Your broker or insurer will be able to tell you.

I am insured with RAC and even they show the cost of my claim as £0 on all the paperwork from them.

The claims on my renewal letter don't mention cost at all, although they do all have TBC next to them - RAC customer services could only guess that this meant To Be Confirmed but I can't see any reason why that would be the case as the claims were complete in September, January and March.

Not exactly, although to be fair to the insurer and windscreen company they both dealt with things pretty efficiently, which I guess is more important.
