Car still on finance : contract void?

The finance company systems i would have thought would at least show the payment being processed the same day as the payment was made. HPI could take several days or more.
I would say the O/P is right to be "spooked" by it all. It would certainly unsettle me, and i've walked away from a sale for less reasons.
The missing V5 makes me think it is a repossession and people who have things repossessed are often the ones who haven't got the money to spend to look after things. I'd be after a service history (most newer cars have manufacturer's systems for logging services so it should be possible to find out if it has been serviced according to schedule).
In such circumstances, the OP would be sensible to walk away - they thought they were buying a car with a slight mystery over a missing V5, but now it turns out that there is a long list of oddities including questionable mileage history - I would use that last one as the deal breaker - it is the one where you really have solid grounds that the vehicle is not what you thought it was.0 -
Loads of cars have mileage descrepancies - its normally lazy people slapping in say, 48,000 miles when the reading is asctually 48,452 miles. Then when someone HPi's it and enters the correct mileage that its reading, it will then throw up a descrepancy.0
