Hi folks,
I have just bought an SSD and need to disconnect one of two internal dvd drives in desktop to connect the SSD to motherboard as all internal sata ports on motherboard are full.
As someone on my other thread kindly pointed out, there is a e-sata on my motherboard at back of computer so I can run a sata cable there to hook up the internal dvd drive to, by just taking it through a blanking plate which I intend to do.
The cable that I ordered is
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SATA-3-6GB-Straight-SATA-Plug-Cable-Lead-90cm-locks-/110622133134?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19c197cb8e
Just wondering is this cable ok or do I need some sort of external e-sata cable that will connect into back of computer e-sata port?
many thanks

sata and esata cables different (esata will be shielded).
You'll need something like this (although it only says 3.0gbps, I just picked the first esata to sata cable I found)

Yes I'm afraid you need an eSATA -> SATA cable as the connector is slightly different. There are loads on eBay of different lengthsChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Do you need two DVD drives ? I hardly ever use one these days.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

I've just changed one of my computers to replace the DVD drive with a second disk, and I plug in an external USB DVD on the occasions I need to use one.
If you do need to have a disc available, you could rip it to an ISO image and use a utility to mount that as if it were a DVD drive. I have Virtual CloneDrive (http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html) on my work laptop, and the functionality is built in to Linux.0
