We got a bit carried away when we were in Orlando earlier this year, we bought a the toy castle and train set and a load of other stuff enough to fill 3boxes that were delivered the week after we got back by UPS with a charge of £95 for tax and duty.
We paid tax and duty in the U.S. so why do we have to pay this again especially as they are all gifts, have just received another bill for £20 from UPS saying they under charged!
We paid the £95but can we claim it back?

UPS also charge a fee for providing the customs clearance service on your behalf.
Did you not have the option of avoiding some US taxes as you were exporting the goods directly?
No, I do not believe you can claim anything back.0 -

Even though you paid tax on the purchases in the US, they are still liable for import duties when brought into the UK (unless you hand carried them on your return and you were below the chargeable threshold of £390 per person).
Any postal or courier imports from outside the EU are liable for VAT if the shipment is valued at over £15 and import duty if above £135 in value.
You are only being charged what was legally due (plus a handling fee charged by UPS for collecting the duty and passing it on to HMRC) so no, you can't claim it back.0
