Credit Rebuilding help?? please :)

Hi guys!

After being a very silly boy at university i am now nearly debt free and ready to rebuild my credit file!

Firstly, what way is best to improve my credit score?

I have a phone contract I pay on time each month.

I had a mycashplus card which I defaulted on so I can't use that to rebuild my score. I'm stupid I know!

I can't get accepted on any of the "bad credit" card because of my poor rating so is there any other ways you guys could suggest to boost my score?

I am currently paying off my overdraft to lloyds tsb through moorcroft debt company but it still says defaulted on my file. Would it help if I rang up Lloyds and asked them to change it to agreement to pay?

Many thanks in advance guys I imagine you get asked it his all the time. I know this is going to be a six year plan and I am in this for the long haul!

    Hi alant092,

We’re happy to see that you’re getting back on track. We see a lot of customers with similar problems to you and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

While there is no easy way to improve your credit score, what you’re doing by paying your debts off is definitely a step in the right direction.

It may help if you speak to Lloyds, but bear in mind they don’t have to change what’s already recorded on your credit file if it’s accurate. Businesses must tell credit reference agencies exactly what’s happened.

A default will stay on your credit file 6 years from when it was put on but after that it falls off. Once you’ve finished paying this it will show as settled.
