FCP test - timescales?

Sorry about the yukky subject matter.
Has anyone had a faecal calprotectin test done? How long did it take? I handed my sample in about six weeks ago and the results aren't back yet.
My rheumatologist and immunologist both want my GP to refer me to gastroenterology, my GP says there's no need until he's done more tests himself.
Meanwhile my problems are getting more severe and more frequent.

Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Not had one done, but it is usually around a week from when the sample is received to results; the results then have to be interpreted, confirmed, verified and sent back to whoever requested the test. The requester then has to contact you with the information.
Not a quick process unfortunately, and as it is a relatively new test, the timescales for your particular local lab may be completely different.
Best to speak with the surgery (you don't need an appointment); if you're not getting anywhere, a formal complaint to the practice manager usually shoves things along quicker for you (11 years in the NHS tells you that those who shout the loudest and are the most annoying get seen fastest).
Without knowing some serious in-depth information (which patients will not know) there's no way of telling.0 -
Thanks.
The GP did say that it couldn't be done locally and had to be sent off somewhere special, so I guess depending how long that took it could have added a few days.
I've got an appointment at the surgery on the 8th, if I haven't heard anything I'll ask fo rmore info about when I can expect a result although I don't think the receptionists will know.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
In that case it could be months - the NHS isn't known for its communication. Give them a call tomorrow (anytime after 11am is usually appreciated) and the secretaries can chase it up for you.
Receptionists and secretaries are two different staff classes. Receptionists answer phones and the front desk and do prescriptions, whereas secretaries chase results, consultants and the like. I'm sure your surgery will be happy to help.0 -
That's great, thanks so much. I'll try and speak to a secretary to get it chased up. I need to pop in anyway to deal with some other bits of paperwork.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I'm very surprised it's taken so long for the result to come back. I had one done last month and it took 2 weeks to come back, so I'd be chasing it!0

Cheers, I'll get on to it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
