MOT Failure - Repair Cost
Hi All,
I had purchased my first car a few months back.
The car's MOT was refused for the following reasons:
1. Offside front position lamp not working
2. Offside headlamp aim too high
3. Nearside headlamp aim too low
4. Nearside front windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid
5. Offside front windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid
6. Nearside track rod end ball joint has excessive play
7. Nearside front coil spring broken
8. Nearside rear passenger door doesnt latch securely closed
9. Nearside front constant velocity joint is insecure
10. Offside front constant velocity joint is insecure
The service centre who did the MOT have given an estimate of £450 to fix all the above. Is it a fair price, If not, how much should it be?
Many thanks.

Sounds dear, but some are fiddly jobs that could take hours.
1) could be a bulb gone, or could be an awkward wiring fault.
2) & 3) might be 5 minutes with an allen key, or 10minutes to fit the bulbs properly, or might be broken mounts on the headlamps that need the whole lamp rplacing/bodging up.
4&5 might be low washer fluid, a kinked pipe, or need a new pump.
6) & 7) probably an hours work, plus anything from £50 for parts.
8) could be an adjustment with a hammer, or need a new lock.
9) & 10) likely need new clips, which if it is a Corsa, these fell off anyway, and Vauxhall do a replacement band that breaks to slip on then rejoins and crimps up quicker than you can read this.
Can't you have a look at the easy jobs yourself?
Otherwise take the failure sheet to a local backstreet garage (not a main dealer, or one with a shiny High Street look) and ask for a quote.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
