The same could be said for the mix too, if it's very high in wheat you are not likely to attract any small birds as they don't eat it. It's great fodder for pigeons and crows though!
bnm bargains, so what's the best place to get fatballs?0 -

Perhaps my visitors are less fussy - they've eaten all the brands I've put out for them. Wilkinson's "Wilko" brand went down well, even after being left in the garage for months during the warm season. I've got a jumbo box of them now by W M Harrison (I think), and they're disappearing almost daily.
B&M's seed mix has not gone down very well at all in my feeders - maybe it's that brand?© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0 -
If you want to get a lot of fat balls it's best to buy them online in bulk boxes, there are plenty of places that offer good fat balls at a low price.
In my experience BNM bargains are not great for bird food, there is a lot of wheat in their seed mixes and their fat balls haven't been very good.
If you really want to get birds visiting quickly I'd recommend suet balls over fat balls, they're a bit more expensive but the birds go mad for them!0 -
I've never had a great deal of success with that type but have been very successful with one shaped like a doughnut. Checkout ebay or Amazon. I have it hanging from my bedroom balcony & close to hedge. Sparrows especially adore it.0

I had one of those perched on the washing pole. It took a few days before the birds had clocked it, but I quickly placed into the trees as a result of pigeons getting to it.
The birds took to it more vigorously from the trees, but the pigeons kept returning for the scraps so I ended up removing it completely.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I've bought the seed and nut feeder model of this. Is the fatball model required - squirrals wont be interested in suet. Or is it handy to buy to prevent pigeons and other large birds getting it?

It won't be the cheapest - but I got a box of these (think they were half price at the time) and our birds absolutely love them.
